celtic - what is it?

So you have heard about the Celts, so what is it meant to be Celtic . Well the term Celtic is actually a cultural tradition and not related to physical characteristics. The Celts were a group of people first originating in Germany and eastern France in the 2nd millennium bc, however they can be traced back as far as India. They spread throughout Europe and for a long time occupied the territory of Gaul which is roughly the modern territory of France and Belgium. This tribe spoke an indo-European dialect. They travelled as far as the British Isles mounted on horses and armed with iron weapons. They were at their peak of dominance across Europe during the Iron Age. Their culture flourished and art became popular with the influence of Greece. The Celtic social system comprised a warrior aristocracy and freemen farmers;Druids, with magi co-religious duties, ranked higher than warriors. They had a mixed farming economy. Their oral literary composition was highly developed, they manufactured gold and silver jewelry, swords and scabbards, and shields inlaid with enamel. However their dominance fell when first German tribes and then the Romans battled them and took over their territory. Little is know of Celtic history from this period to the 20th century. Today there are specific regions in Europe which still hold a strong Celtic culture and they include Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Brittany in France.

Dublin Docklands

The development of the dockland area in Dublin has seen significant changes over the past decade. It is now a great place to take a strole along the keyside. So what is there to take in.

The Jeannie Johnson - replica famine ship, is a great specticle to look at. this image shows the boat reflecting from one of the two resturants on the keyside.

The walkway is brightly lit with modern lighting, the foot lights which are placed in the ground even have a minature fish in the lighting bulb. The pathway is well laid out and clean.

The statues of the famine family are a good piece of sculpture and tone in with the environment well.

Anyway if you like you always have the rest of Dublins central view to look at

Temple Bar

So when was the last time you went out in Temple Bar.? Or have you ever been there.? After ten years of partying with stag and hen parties is it still as good as location as any for going out.
The answer is yes. During the summer, on any given night the streets of Temple bar were loaded with people both tourists and locals.
There was plenty of street entertainment as well as the music pumping out the the various lively bars
You are guaranteed to past at least 1 hen party every 5 minutes. You could spend the whole night just watching the people go by.

Dublins boardwalk

Dublins boardwalk has been the subject of drug trafficing recently. I personally have found it a safe place to sit down after a days work. If the state want to get rid of any trafficing on the boardwalk they should police it a more and install a few cameras.

Celtic Festivals

Celtic festivals are hugh in the USA. http://www.irishusa.com/#festivals
But is the biggest celtic festival in Lorient, France.? The organisers claim this is the biggest Celtic event in Brittany, or anywhere else for that matter, attracting more than 250,000 representatives from all seven Celtic "countries" (Asturias and Galicia in Spain, Cornwall, Wales and Scotland, Ireland and Brittany). Most of the activities – music, dance and literature – take place around the central place Jules-Ferry, and this is where most people end up sleeping, too, as accommodation is pushed to the limit.

It would be interesting to find out from other celtic festivals what size crowds their festivals attract?
